One of my favorite things about being in a new place, especially in the summer, is trying produce that I’ve never seen before. Case in point:
Walderbeeren, or “forest berries.” They look like miniature, shriveled strawberries and have an amazing taste. Imagine if a strawberry and raspberry had a baby and you’d have a good idea what these taste like. They are quite expensive (5 Euros for 100 grams, which is about $6.50 for less than 4 ounces/half a cup), so I won’t be buying them in quantities large enough to make preserves to bring back to the States. We’ll just occasionally enjoy them while we can.
