What exactly is this stand, and why is it photo-worthy, you ask? This is an example of the ubiquitous kebap stand, located at train stations and street corners all over Vienna. That large cylindrical object in the corner of the stand (in front of the customer) is actually a large spit o’ meat. If you ask for anything involving kebap, the operator of the stand will take a large saw-like knife and slice some right off the spit for you. My personal favorite is the kebap box: a layer of rice, then sliced onions and tomatoes, large slices of meat, topped with a spicy sauce. It’s the best lunch and relatively inexpensive as well. I will most definitely miss these.
